Greetings all! Greater Gotham is back from the holidays (or as it should properly have been called this year – the holicraze) and is ready to once again to plum the depth of this fine city. Much happened while we were away:
- the temperature and murder rate have dropped (don’t worry – the temp is on the rise again)
- the average price of a Manhattan apartment went up to $1.4 million (start worrying – I’m not sure it won’t go up again)
- the projections are that after the 2010 Census, NY State’s congressional delegation will shrink by two seats (I’m not sure this will make a huge difference in the end. More worrying is the 4 more Texas seats being projected as well.
- city employees had their parking priviledges cut (apparently when the sign says “no parking” what it actually means is “no parking unless you have a city employee parking placards permitting you to park.” Only that was too long for the signs)
- mini-Mayor went to play big man on the national political scene again (what do you call a man who keeps doing this? A poll-teaser.)
There was lots more but it’s all lost in the haze of eggnog-soaked parties and turkey-laden sideboarded dinners. Take my word for it. It was a busy time.
And 2008 looks to be busy here at Greater Gotham. We have the continuting Shopping Series as well as more tips for living life gotham-style. I also want to know what you want to hear about or see. The Greater Gotham roving camera will be out in force this year so look for candids and closeups as we continue our mission of getting out and about in the city – and beyond
