Let the rest of the world watch the Olympics. I shall settle in and watch the Westminster Dog Show. Not only because it’s a New York tradition (though it is). Not only because once again (for the 19th consecutive year) the Labrador Retriever has been named America’s Favorite dog (far more impressive that “best in show” if you ask me). Not only because “wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee dogs” ( though what other reason would I ever need).
No, I watch the Westminster Dog show because there’s always that chance that the real dogs, the down to earth dogs will triumph over the “just for show” dogs. Now, I know what you are saying – you are saying “But um – it’s the Westminster Dog show. They are ALL show dogs.” Yes, obviously but I don’t mean individual dogs. I mean breeds. Beagles, retrievers, spaniels – that kind of thing. Much happier when an Uno (best in show 2008) wins than when some overly prepped, oddly coiffed barbie doll accessory wins.
Of course, none of them can hold a candle to my dogs (affectionately known as the Yellow Labs of Doom)
