Budgets? We Don’t Need No Sinkin’ Budgets: Gosh, the budget deadline has come and gone here in NY without a budget being approved. I’m shocked. Only I am not. Now, don’t get me wrong – this doesn’t make the current legislature any worse than the previous ones. They are worse but that’s for other reasons – this budget things just makes them one of many. According to the New York Times, “State lawmakers have passed an on-time budget six times since 1975.”
Strike This Sentence: According to NY1, “Thousands of city doormen and apartment building workers moved one step closer to walking off the job Thursday.” Now, it’s not the potential strike that caught my eye here (this is a regularly occurring story that usually comes to nothing. The last strike was in 1991 – not-so-amusingly around the time I was trying to move into this building.) No, what caught my attention was the bad sentence structure. They aren’t going on strike THURSDAY. They voted in Thursday to give their union the authority to call a strike later this month if necessary. Does no one read this stuff before it goes out?
And as it is a long weekend for many, I offer you these helpful “things to do, places to go, things to see” links:
Free things to do today from Time Out New York which includes the Central Park Moonlight Bike Ride. I’m intrigued by this idea more than I can say but I don’t have a bike. They also cover This Weekend’s Five Big Events including the Urban Pillow Fight. Come on, you know you want to . . .
