News Peruse – Subways, Serendipity and Skating

by Deborah on December 7th, 2007 · No Comments ·

metrocardI am happy to announce that finally gotten over my shock over the new subway reorganization plan (no, I never decided which bit shocked me more). So you can imagine how intrigued I was to see the City Room blog pose the question How Would You Run These Subway Lines?

I’ve decided to give it some real thought since it’s really the one part of the transit system I’ve not thought about much (we’ve heard my ranting on tolls and traffic already so I shall spare us a rehash). The folks who have already commented though have some intriguing ideas and many of them might just work (which means of course they won’t get implemented).

serendipity.jpg Possibly I will give it thought as I sip contentedly on my favorite of all dessert beverages. Yes, that’s right – Serendipity 3 reopened this week! Yeah! Frozen Chocolate for all! No, Don’t talk t me about mice and cockroaches. I’m sure it’s been taken care of now and if you think that Chinese restaurant you ate in last night is any better, think again. 25% of those checked each year don’t pass and they only get around to checking about 10%. You do the math. And bon appetite.

Elsewhere in the city, the Bryant Park skating rink has decided to be Canada for several weeks. I’m not sure why the Park is having this apparent identity crisis. They say it’s part of a campaign to get people to visit Canada. They’ve even sent Canadian Mounties to woo us each and every Monday for the rest of the year – they may want to rethink calling those days Mountie Mondays. Or, better yet, embrace the innuendo. Send us pole dancing Canadian Mounties. Frankly, if you want me to visit Canada, all you have to do is say so and I’m there. Not for long mind you – long enough to pop into the drugstore and pick up a supply of ibuprofen with codeine – but I’ll go. But Canada in New York?
