deja vu - it’s Taxi strike time again come Monday. And that means the zone fare system is back in place as well. I can’t be the only one who notices how much better traffic is during these strikes, can I? Buses move more freely, the taxis that are on the road get where they are going in a timely manner. Might we be able to make this strike a regular feature?
But in case the striking drivers felt all alone out there, they might take comfort in the fact that
-
taxi drivers in Madrid are also striking (though over the death of a collegue as opposed to the implementation of technology)
-
DC taxi drivers are pondering a strike to protest the use of meters
-
and down under, the Aussie drivers caused much chaos and mayhem with their airport-centric strike protesting the arrest of one of their collegues.
Striking appears to be quite the “in” thing these days among the medallions.
Before I forget, the new yellow cab logo? Sucketh. According to the article, it’s part of achieving “a better taxicab experience.” Did I mention the suckage?
Any finally — if I might make a taxi related suggestion of my own? While they are pondering stuffing more technology into cabs, they might consider taking out those ridiculous televsion screens facing the back seat. Or at least make the default “off” so I don’t get bombarded with a montage of NYC highlights narrated by some hyperkinetic cheerleader type telling me that “New York is where it’s AT!”
